WHO WE ARE:
The New York Medical Equipment Providers Association (NYMEP)
was organized in 1991 as a statewide professional association
for providers, manufacturers and distributors of home medical
equipment. The Association represents over 160 companies throughout
New York State and is committed to provide timely information,
communication and education on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement,
state and federal regulations and legislation affecting the
HME industry. NYMEP is the ONLY statewide HME association
in New York State. NYMEP continues to provide a strong, unified
voice for its members in an effort to affect adverse regulatory
and legislative issues at both the federal and state level.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
NYMEP's mission is to advance the HME service industry in
New York State through the promotion of ethical practice,
standards of quality assurance and activities which support
the economic viability and growth of its members.
PUBLIC POLICY, REGULATION & REIMBURSEMENT:
- NYMEP works closely on the federal level, staving off
proposals such as competitive bidding and providing input
for federal policymakers on sound public policy.
- NYMEP established an agreement with the Department of
Health on a MRA (Maximum Reimbursement Amount) fee schedule
for most HME products during 1998 and continues to work
with DOH on rate/coding issues.
- NYMEP represents its members’ interests on numerous
issues such as Medicaid prior approval and Medicaid/Medicare
dual eligibility.
- NYMEP successfully implemented EMEVS system for electronic
prior authorizations, reducing administrative burdens on
all NYMEP members.
- NYMEP works on behalf of its members on Medicare issues
by maintaining a strong presence on the Region A Council,
which acts as a liaison between state associations in Region
A, NHIC and CMS.
- NYMEP educates its members on various significant legal
and fiscal issues affecting the entire industry, including
policies on audits, fraud and abuse, HIPAA, and other issues
of importance to the hme community.
